The BL genre, as a whole, has definitely been experiencing an uptick in popularity in recent years. Not only are there more manhwa and danmei to choose from, we’re even getting anime and drama adaptations so it’s been pretty good for BL fans recently.
However, im personally beginning to notice a decline in BL manga specifically? Like. I pretty much never hear of any new long-form manga getting big โ compare this to korean manhwa and danmei novels, where i feel like there’s always something new going on.
We have the summer hikaru died, which even has the (very good) adaptation i mentioned, but that seems to be the exception. Apart from that, it’s mostly been korea and china dominating the BL sphere (**in the context of original works btw, i know shipping culture is still massive in jpn)
Ig it just feels weird since bl seems to have mostly been pioneered by old manga artists. It’s crazy that, when you check sites like anime-planet, the options go from double digit pages to as little as three once you filter out novels and manhwa
